Violet and a Few Cat Projects

May 17, 2022 Leave a Comment

I adopted a new kitty at the end of February 2022. Violet was found on Valentine’s Day roaming the streets in a nearby town. She was brought to the local no-kill cat shelter where she was checked for a microchip and if she had been spayed, given her shots, and then put up for adoption. I had decided I was going to adopt a new cat in March, which was 6 months since I had lost my 17-year-old cat, Daphne, to kidney failure. I wanted to adopt my new cat from the same shelter where I had adopted Daphne 12 years earlier. Because of Covid, the shelter was only accepting appointments to see the cats, so I made the appointment at the beginning of February for the last week of February, which was a mistake on my part. It was brutal waiting an entire month to adopt. I saw so many wonderful cats get adopted, which was great for them, but I was worried there wouldn’t be many cats to choose from when I had my appointment. My appointment was the first of the day, so I checked the website the night before to see which cats would be available. I had narrowed it down to three cats, Violet being one of them. They had also picked three cats for me to choose from, Violet being one of them. When I bent down to pet her and she hopped up on my lap, I knew that Violet would be coming home with me.

Violet is a four-year-old torbico. I had never heard of a torbico before, so I did a little research. A torbico is a torbie (a combination of a black and brown tabby with an orange tabby) with a white spotting gene. She is basically part tabby and part calico. After a little over 2 months, Violet is still a little skittish, but she is also very loving. It took Daphne almost three years before she slept with me on the bed, so I understand it might take time for her to feel 100% safe with me. Her hobbies are looking out the window, and sleeping, as I’m sure you can tell from these pictures. She also likes salmon treats and playing with her favorite toy we call “monkey head”. It is actually supposed to be a mouse on a stick, but it really looks like a monkey head on a stick. It is a very weird toy! My other girls, Drusilla and Daphne, loved “monkey head” too. Who knew a Dollar Store toy would be the favorite toy of all three girls.

I have been purchasing quite a few craft supplies and patterns off of Etsy and other online shops lately. I really want to support as many small businesses as I can. The Lemon Cat pattern from Barbara Ana Designs had been out of stock for months. When I saw it was back in stock at Stitched Modern I snatched it up. I can’t wait to get started on it. I also picked up a zippered project bag from Dot Dot Goose Design on Etsy. It is made with the Teresa Kogut For the Love of Nature fabric. I actually have another Teresa Kogut fabric project bag on order too. It is going to be made with the Halloween Whimsy fabric. The fabric is so cute. It has adorable witches, pumpkins, and black cats. I also ordered the Teresa Kogut Whimsy Halloween cross stitch pattern, which is similar to the fabric, but it hasn’t arrived yet. I am already getting excited for the fall and Halloween.

I also finally finished my first crochet project of the year and another one of my most recent cat projects. The super cute lion wall hanging is headed to my cousin in California for her new baby who is due in late July. I’m not really sure why this took me as long as it did, but I feel like most of my craft projects are taking longer than usual. I think I’m still not 100% back to enjoying crafting. Ever since Covid hit, I just haven’t felt like wanting to do anything creative. This year, I am finally starting to feel my craft spark again. Let’s hope that continues into the fall.
