Today is letter J of the Blogging From A-Z Challenge and my theme, Atlantic Hurricanes. You can read more about my theme, here, and if you are a crafter, you can check out the blanket that I am crocheting that coincides with this challenge, here.
I’ve lived my entire life in the South, so I’ve been through my fair share of tropical depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes. For this challenge, I’m looking back on the storms that have impacted my life and some of the bigger more unforgettable storms.
I remember Hurricane Jeanne, even though she didn’t directly affect me. She was the first hurricane I missed out on after moving from South Florida. It was a pretty bad storm for South Florida, but an even worse one for Haiti. I don’t think Jeanne ever directly hit Haiti, but the rain caused massive mudslides, which caused thousands of deaths. It was a terribly deadly storm.
One bit of levity from the storm: I remember the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins football game being postponed because of the hurricane. That is always a big game for my family, living in South Florida but being huge Steeler fans. They were not happy!
