I have always loved to craft. As a little girl, I enjoyed designing things with my Light Bright, Spirograph, and Fashion Plates. I even had my first “craft business” at the age of 10. My neighborhood friend and I sold handmade cards to our neighbors. Then one Christmas my grandmother gave me my first cross stitch kit. It was then that I became instantly hooked on fiber art. I continued to cross stitch and craft well into my college years, but never really tried any other fiber arts. I did construct a Christmas dollhouse entirely in my University of Florida dorm room. It took me an entire semester to complete it. I still have it today.
I adopted my first cat, Tiger Lily, while in elementary school. She was a wonderful Tabby cat who lived to be 21 years old. Drusilla, was my second cat, but the first that I took care of myself. I adopted her a year after moving to North Carolina. She was my shadow, which was perfect for her since she was a black cat. Unfortunately, she developed kidney failure and I had to say goodbye to her at the age of 13. Two years after adopting Drusilla, I adopted Daphne. She had partial facial paralysis that the shelter thought was from a trauma. Even with her lack of trust of humans, she was the sweetest girl. I just lost her in October 2021 from a long battle with kidney disease. She was 17 years old. It took me 6 months before I adopted my cat, Violet. Amazingly enough, her personality is 50% Drusilla and 50% Daphne, but her face looks like Lily. She has a little bit of all of my girls in her. She is a tabby/calico/tortie, but she most definitely has that tortie attitude! She is a funny girl!
Along with being a huge cat lover, I am a huge animal welfare supporter. Both in high school and college I protested on several occasions against the circus and animal testing. With my crafting, I try my best to seek out supplies that are not made from animal products. I mostly craft with Eco-fi felt, which is made from recycled plastic bottles, and acrylic yarn. I do have a few projects that require wool felt, but those are very few.
I have been blessed over the years to have had a successful craft blog, Etsy shop, and have been published in several publications including the craft magazines below and a craft compilation book from F+W Media. Not too shabby for a girl who started out with only a Light Bright.
