Today is letter E of the Blogging From A-Z Challenge and my theme, Atlantic Hurricanes. You can read more about my theme, here, and if you are a crafter, you can check out the blanket that I am crocheting that coincides with this challenge, here.
I’ve lived my entire life in the South, so I’ve been through my fair share of tropical depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes. For this challenge, I’m looking back on the storms that have impacted my life and some of the bigger more unforgettable storms.
Today’s hurricane is Hurricane Erin from 1995 and the first hurricane to hit the contiguous US since Hurricane Andrew. Erin was a big deal in South Florida. Andrew was still very fresh on the minds of everyone, so when Erin came around everyone panicked. I remember complete chaos even though Erin never hit South Florida, but she did hit Northern Florida. When I was researching the storm, the fact I found most interesting was that Publix had to produce 9,000 gallons of water bottles every 90 minutes due to the hysteria. That is crazy!
