I’ve lived my entire life in the South, so I’ve been through my fair share of tropical depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes. For this challenge, I’m looking back on the storms that have impacted my life and some of the bigger more unforgettable storms.
Hurricane Opal was a strong Category 3 storm when it hit the Panhandle of Florida in 1995. The storm caused massive flooding with rainfall over 15 inches, wind gusts of 145 mph, storm surges of up to 15 feet, and spawned an EF2 tornado. In addition to causing extensive damage to Florida, Opal caused severe damage along the northern Gulf Coast of the United States, including Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
