Today is letter F of the Blogging From A-Z Challenge and my theme, Atlantic Hurricanes. You can read more about my theme, here, and if you are a crafter, you can check out the blanket that I am crocheting that coincides with this challenge, here.
I’ve lived my entire life in the South, so I’ve been through my fair share of tropical depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes. For this challenge, I’m looking back on the storms that have impacted my life and some of the bigger more unforgettable storms.
Today we’ve shifted away from the hurricanes that have directly affected me to ones that have a little bit of an effect on me. I live in North Carolina and Fran is one of those hurricanes that everyone talks about, especially how hard she hit central North Carolina. We don’t usually get strong winds in central North Carolina because the hurricane has to make its way through a large chunk of the state before hitting us. It is mostly the rain and flooding that we have to deal with. But, not Fran. She hit the Raleigh area hard! While I was doing my research, I read the highest wind gust ever recorded at the RDU Airport, 79 mph, was due to Fran. That is crazy! Unfortunately, it is just a matter of time before we get another Fran.
